Top 50+ Venture Capital Podcasts for 2020!

Audio-content is growing in the venture capital world. Here are the top 50+ venture capital podcasts (audio-only) that I have subscribed to or listened to in the past. They are in relative alphabetical order.

If you’re looking for great content, spend time going through them all. You’ll find the information you’re looking for, the voice that you enjoy, and the entertainment you desire! If you’re looking for a daily show in venture capital, there is only one at the moment that is both [audio] and [video]!

3 reasons why these are these my top 50 venture capital podcasts for 2020:

  1. They are authentic. Or at least reveal as much of themselves as they can. Finding your voice in audio takes a long time. Being comfortable speaking and entertaining an audience takes even longer.
  2. They are (relatively) consistent. Creating content consistently is the brand. It’s value. The real question is who will quit. It’s hard to do this long term. It’s a big commitment.
  3. All of the topics intersect technology and investment opportunities at the meta-level. We are obligated to listen to those that have gone before us. It is required to make us more effective as investors and operators. Listen and grow!

Full transparency: I do not always listen to each of these podcasts regularly. It’s just way too much content to consume. I would suggest giving each podcast a couple of episodes and see whether it’s a voice/personality that you connect with. If they bore you, you’ll never be able to extract what they are talking about anyway. Find the podcaster who has personality and showmanship!

Please comment and let me know if I’ve missed any!

Techish Podcast – We’re techish a podcast about the intersection of tech, pop culture, and life. A podcast by two millennials talking about all things tech, pop culture, and life. Starring tech founders Abadesi Osunsade and Michael Berhane. While I appreciate the background entertainment that these two provide, they certainly show their naivete when it comes to the larger life-issues that most adults have already experienced. The entertainment comes when they discuss things they clearly don’t understand.

Upfront Ventures – The Upfront Ventures podcast features a variety of guests to discuss startups, venture capital, and current events – providing an insider’s view into entrepreneurship and technology. My favorite review of this podcast is the following: Suster is an extremely poor interviewer. Questions are completely uninteresting and this should just stay a Starbucks conversation. Suster loves Suster and interviews Suster. And Suster is amazed by how Suster is great. LOL.

Y Combinator Podcast – We talk with people who are shaping the future. A show about technology in business, research, and art. This podcast has been a guiding light as an entrepreneur in technology. The insights Craig and the team are able to pull out of a wide array of founders have helped shape my approach to product development, leadership, and fundraising. This is an essential starting point to get in the right mindset for navigating life as a founder. Every episode offers several pieces of insight, wisdom, advice, counsel, inspiration and/or guidance you couldn’t possibly receive unless you were fortunate enough to hang with these leaders all the time. Regardless of where you are in the start-up process, Y Combinator’s podcast will leave you smarter, stronger, and more inclined to keep moving forward with clarity and purpose.

Zero to IPO – Most business podcasts follow a similar format: find a successful CEO and have them tell their story. This is not that show. Zero to IPO gets granular: each episode focuses on one particular stage of a company’s growth cycle with perspectives from some of the world’s most innovative founders, from Parker Harris of Salesforce.com, to Julia Hartz of Eventbrite and Marc Andreessen of Andreessen Horowitz. Every growing company faces similar challenges, but not every company talks about them. Zero to IPO is designed to give entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs, and the public at large an unfiltered view into what it really takes to build a successful company — from start to IPO and beyond.

Congratulations to all the podcasters out there willing to help grow venture media!

One of the most intriguing things about venture capital podcasts or founder/entrepreneur podcasts is that they’re all audio-first. In our new age of the video-first market, I don’t quite understand why more aren’t doing video. It really is time for venture media to go pro.
