Agile Beyond Software class (In Person version)

This class pre-work is to give you a background on the Agile framework known as Scrum. Like almost all Agile frameworks, Scrum was originally designed to be used with software teams. That was back in 1993! Since the Agile Beyond Software class is about using agile outside of software, you may be wondering why you need to learn about a software derived framework. The answer is twofold:

  1. Scrum gives a basic understanding of many agile concepts that will be applied anywhere agility is used. It doesn’t need to be a software team! If you see things talking about “software” internalize them as being about creating a deliverable of some sort, not necessarily a software deliverable.
  2. The pre-work gives everyone a common understanding of basic terminology and a basic framework to use as a reference point.

While Scrum may NOT be what you end up using, the basics of agility and some of the terminology will be useful as you learn how to apply agile in your context!

It is required to complete the pre-work lessons that are available before day 1 of the class or you won’t be allowed to attend the class. It is not unusual for the work to take 2+ hours, so please plan appropriately prior to day 1 of the class.
